Wide-range Ambient Monitoring Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS) 3938W50-CEN10

Monitor ultrafine particles in the atmosphere continuously with this CEN-compliant particle sizing system. This wide-range Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS™) spectrometer is compliant with all requirements of the Technical Specification CEN/TS 17434:2020 of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This technical standard is focused on the harmonized measurement of particle size distribution in the atmosphere.

Product Details

Since the late 1990’s the TSI SMPS™ series serves aerosol research with particle measurements covering nucleation, Aitken and accumulation modes (from 1 nm to 1 µm). Soon the SMPS™ moved out of academic laboratories and was established in atmospheric monitoring stations of research centers, Environmental Protection Agencies (EPAs), and the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) program.

The new updates included in the model 3938W50-CEN10 extend the size range of the SMPS™ to cover 10 nm to 800 nm in one single scan with the Differential Mobility Analyzer (DMA) 3083. We also modernized the matching sampling system to provide a one-stop solution for air quality monitoring. The updated optional software provides features of particular value for atmospheric monitoring: particle loss correction of the sampling system, extended auto-export of data, and power outage recovery mode. In addition, uncorrected raw concentration data can now be exported to allow harmonized data inversion for large monitoring networks.

New to monitoring of ultrafine particles? TSI provides education and support from the basics to the installation.

Applications

  • Air quality monitoring
  • Environmental chamber studies
  • Indoor air quality studies
  • Health effect studies
  • Basic aerosol research

Features and Benefits

  • Extended particle size range from 10 nm to 800 nm
  • New DMA 3083 based on TROPOS Vienna type DMA
  • Model 3938W50-CEN10 automatically includes a calibration performed by a facility of the European Center for Aerosol Calibration and Characterization (ECAC), as an independent reference. If desired, the same instrument can be purchased without this calibration included (model 3938W50), and the TROPOS calibration obtained separately
  • Scan time down to 1 minute: capture dynamic aerosol distributions (for example, near airports)
  • Designed for continuous use 24/7/365
  • Compliant with CEN/TS 17434:2020
  • Capable of providing a common log of particle data, relative humidity, and temperature when used with the Aerosol Humidity and Temperature Sensor RHT3000
  • The model series 3938 SMPS™ allows users to exchange components to fit various particle size ranges.
