Features

Fine dynamic cut-off

With the manual cutting movement, the cutting force is regulated through a set of gears. The cut is thereby yerk-free and more precise. The easy-to-use lever brake fixes the cutting disc in any position.

Innovative details

The sliding front door and the side door with safety interlock allow easy and optimal access to the cutter chamber. Further, the LED cutting chamber illumination is energy-saving. The arbour is protected against wearing by an interchangeable ring.

Manual horizontal movement

The manual horizontal movement allows cutting long parts longitudinally and easy positioning of the sample below the cut-off wheel.

Z-axis

The manual Z-axis can be adjusted with 0.1 mm precision for parallel cuts.

Perfect cutting – Cut-off wheels from QATM

Cutting is more reliable, safe and efficient when processed with the right ingredients: knowledge, care and the right choice of consumables and instruments. The Qprep range includes specially developed cut-off wheels for a wide variety of materials and requirements.

  • Low thermal influence on the specimen during the cutting process
  • Wet abrasive cutting achieves very fine surface finishes after cutting
  • Optimal cutting shortens the further preparation process

The Basics of Materialographic Sectioning

Metallographic cutting or sectioning usually marks the first step of the metallographic sample preparation process. In most cases it is necessary because the part or solid body is too large for the following metallographic grinding and polishing steps carried out on a laboratory scale. Depending on part geometries and material hardness as well as employed analytical techniques, different cutting techniques and consumables are used. The aim of this article is to explain the principle of materialographic cutting as well as the consumables and parameters which can influence the cutting result.
